AV Installation and Support Specialist

The AV Installation and Support Specialist works as part of an audio-visual design, engineering, installation and support team, within Learning Environments, part of the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation. Under General guidance, The AV Specialist is responsible for the planning, installation and support of AV technologies within over 500 classrooms, meeting, and event spaces across the University.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Technical scoping of spaces to inform AV system design; ensure new and upgraded AV solutions meet University standards and support a consistent user experience; must read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, equipment specifications sheets, and floor plans; develop estimates, coordinate with users to meet needs and set expectations.
· Plan and coordinate installations, upgrades of AV systems in all supported spaces across the University; coordinate with internal and external partners and IT staff to ensure the technology installed in these spaces meets their needs and is compatible with rigorous technology standards; supervise contractors hired to assist in construction and installation of AV projects, monitor quality and consistency to standard; develop documentation and guides related to installations, processes and support.
· Assure smooth and reliable operation of AV technology in supported classrooms, meeting and event spaces throughout the University; collaborate in preventative maintenance and urgent support of incidents that require advanced troubleshooting and innovative solutions to technology-related problems.
The AV Installation and Support Specialist will remain familiar with current and emerging trends in instructional and presentation technology and be able to demonstrate an understanding of how technology can enable a variety of teaching methods.
Primary location for support in Columbus campus, with travel to regional and extension locations as needed. This position may be required to work a flexible schedule, which could occasionally include evenings and/or weekends.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2 years of demonstrated experience in audio/visual related position supporting and installing AV systems. Demonstrated a working knowledge and proficiency in the operation, maintenance, and installation of video/web conferencing/AV systems. Ability to read AV schematic diagrams and architectural drawings. Technical proficiency in computing and networking technologies (Windows and Apple). Proven record of providing excellent service in a technical environment; strong interpersonal and communications skills; strong technical/mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and logically solve problems in high pressure situations. Will use radio, hand tools, power tools and electrical/electronic testing equipment, climb ladders and scaffolding up to 10 feet, lift equipment up to 50 pounds, operate vehicles, walk to campus wide locations, and use phones. Demonstrated experience in training end users on AV tech through various measures.
Desired Education and Experience:
Certifications: Avixa CTS
4 or more years of experience working in audio-visual technology or instructional technology installing and supporting audio, display, and computing equipment systems. Experience in an academic environment. Knowledge of component level repair of various electronics including but not limited to amplifiers, projectors, and various power supplies is desired.
